Consumer Questions:

1. Are you affiliated with the companies who are networked on your site?

No, we are not. We are an independent service that is open to any and all individuals and companies involved in construction and landscaping related industries. At BCdex you will find contractors, professionals and suppliers operating anywhere in British Columbia. You will also find suppliers and manufacturers of construction and landscaping equipment and supplies from anywhere in the world providing they are capable of servicing consumers in British Columbia.

2. Can you recommend which companies are better than others?

No, we don't offer any recommendations. What we have done, however, is given companies a chance to tell you, in detail, about their company, the services they provide, their expertise, qualifications, warranties and so on. This will save you the time of having to phone a a whole list of companies from a phone book just to find out who is qualified to do what you need to have done.

3. Do you research the information that is given to you?

No, though reasonable effort is made to make sure of the accuracy of the information given to us we do not research each individual company on the network as this would take enormous resources.

4. I know of a company that's not listed on BCdex. Why aren't they listed?

There are a variety of reasons. We believe the most common reason to be that some contractors, suppliers and professionals still don't use the internet themselves and they are simply unaware of the degree to which people are using the internet to find them. Others have been relying on the older methods such as the telephone book, ads in local newspapers, etc. for years and are not yet cognizant of the major shift over to internet searches. Still others are fully occupied with long term clients and they are not interested in attracting new business.

Subscriber Questions

1. How will the general public find out about my business on BCdex?

People and companies who use their computers for research, such as finding a contractor, supplier or whatever, will typically use one of the major search engines like Google, MSN, AOL or Yahoo and type in a generic search term for the service or product for which they are looking. BCdex enjoys a very high status in search results for contractors and professionals in British Columbia and for suppliers and manufacturers on a world wide basis. We intend to continue applying our resources to maintaining our high search engine status.

When people type in a search request with something like "landscaping in british columbia" or "construction professionals in b.c." or "Victoria construction companies" they should typically find BCdex among the first 20 search results. Once they have clicked in to BCdex, people looking for the type of services you provide will find your company in a matter of seconds.

2. How do I know if people are actually using your site to find companies like mine? How many hits does your site get per month?

Alexa_ToolbarPeople are using BCdex to find every conceivable type of product or service relating to landscaping and construction in British Columbia. The majority of visitors are still finding us through our excellent search engine positioning, however, we are noticing more and more people who are making direct visits. These are either people who have "favoritized" our site or people who have heard about BCdex through word-of-mouth. We're currently getting over 650,000 hits per month. For more information on why you should join the BCdex Network click here.

3. We already have our own web site. Why bother joining the BCdex network?

Unless you have the budget to advertise your own web site, usually the only people who visit it are the people who already know about your company. Most people find websites by using a search engine. Now, if someone types in your exact company name there is a good chance that the search engine will show your site in its results. But that is NOT likely to happen if they simply type in a generic request like "BC electrical contractors " which is exactly what people do when they don't know the name of any companies. BCdex, on the other hand, has positioned itself to come up in the top level search results when people type in generic requests. So the best way for your own website to be found is by becoming a member of the BC Construction and Landscaping Network.

4. We're an international company. Is the B.C. Construction and Landscaping Network only for companies in British Columbia?

Yes and no. We typically find that we list contractors, professionals and management companies with offices in British Columbia, however we will list any company conditional on their ability to provide services in British Columbia.

Manufacturers and suppliers can be located anywhere in the world as long as they are capable of supplying to British Columbia. International manufacturers will often list their businesses as will local suppliers who might carry that manufacturer's line of goods along with others.

While our primary focus is providing information for the B.C. construction and landscaping community the exposure for international manufacturers on BCdex is, well, international.

5. Our local telephone company has us listed on their internet directory. Why would we want to list with BCdex when we're already listed with them?

Your listing on the telephone company's internet directory is fine if you just want to be contacted by people who first go to their directory and then search for your type of company. The thing is that many people don't bother to go to the phone company's directory when all they have to do is use their favorite search engine like Google, MSN, Yahoo, AOL and so on. When people use search engines to find companies like yours the telephone company's internet directory will most often not show up in the search results, at least not anywhere near the top. BCdex DOES show up in the top results. We get over 650,000 hits per month from people who obviously are not using the phone company's internet directory.

6. We are already members of a construction association that has us listed on the association website. Won't people find us there?

Virtually the same answer as No. 5. People will find your association listing if they first go to the association's website and then look for you. But, again, if these people decide to use their favorite search engine to find what they're looking for then they're most likely going to end up at BCdex. If you're not listed with us then they'll likely end up doing business with a contractor, supplier or professional that is listed on BCdex, the BC Construction and Landscaping Network.
